Bequests

”Msunduzi Hospice Association seeks to provide and promote holistic quality care for all people living with a life threatening illness and support to their family members within the Msunduzi Health District”.

What is a Bequest?

A bequest or legacy is simply a gift from your estate to a charitable organization through your Last Will and Testament. The decision to make a Last Will & Testament is a vital one. It will ensure you have a choice about how your assets are distributed after your death.

The preparation of a Last Will and Testament is a very personal and confidential exercise.  Attorneys and accountants are often consulted in this regard.Naturally you will use your assets to benefit your family and loved ones.  However, you may also wish to consider including one or more charitable bequests to institutions you have supported during your lifetime.

In terms of South African law, a bequest in favour of a charitable institution is exempt from Estate Duty. This affords you the opportunity of minimising the tax on your legacy thereby allowing you to leave more to the people and causes you wish to be named as your beneficiaries. Those who name Msunduzi Hospice Association in their Last Will & Testament are ensured that this gift will continue to make a positive and lasting impact on the lives of those in our care.

There are various types of requests including:- General Bequests, Specific Bequests, Residuary Bequests and Contingency Bequests.  Should you wish to explore any of these options, please discuss this matter with the administrator of your Estate; your Lawyer; Accountant and / or Banker.

What if I don't have a Last Will and Testament?

Without a Last Will and Testament, there is no system in place to make a bequest, so here are the steps you should take to make sure your wishes are granted:-

·          Decide on the organization or cause that you would like to support.
·          Make a detailed list of your assets.
·          Set up an appointment with your financial advisor or attorney -
these professionals will help guide you through the process.

Should you wish to make a bequest in favour of Msunduzi Hospice Association please inform us that you have benefited Msunduzi Hospice Association in your Last Will & Testament.

We would greatly appreciate it as having this information helps us to plan for the future and gives us the opportunity to express our appreciation to you.
